Serendipity Farmhouse was built circa 1927. Originally, it had no internal plumbing or electricity. It was much smaller, there were only two bedrooms above a parlor and a dining room. It was modern in some respects. It had an attached kitchen. Earlier houses in Virginia had detached kitchens because of the hot, humid summers.
Everything else you see in the pictures was added over the years and most of that is beginning to wear out and break down. So, “maintenance” is a number one priority. Repairs are frequent. Consequently, saving money for upgrades is difficult. But!!! We are making progress. The following stories chronicle our successes, our failures, and our lessons learned.
